Kickstand is for young people, and that means we want you to help us shape it.
Join a community of young people helping shape programs, services, and opportunities at Kickstand. Whether you’re looking for a leadership role or a flexible way to get involved, there’s a place for your voice.
Here are different ways to get involved
Become a Provincial Youth Action Council (YAC) Member
This is a leadership group for young people ages 11–25 from across Alberta. The members help shape Kickstand’s programs, services, resources, and future direction. They also:
- Participate in consultations, meetings, special projects, events, and leadership opportunities
- Work alongside Kickstand staff, community partners, service providers, families/caregivers, and government representatives
- Share their experiences and perspectives to improve how young people access health and wellness services
Join the General Youth NetworkÂ
This gives you a flexible way to stay connected with Kickstand. Members of the General Youth Network;
- Receive updates about consultations, events, surveys, research opportunities, and special projectsÂ
- Choose opportunities based on your interests and availabilityÂ
- No ongoing commitment or regular meeting attendance requiredÂ
Become a YAC in a Local Kickstand Hub Near You
Local Youth Action Councils (Local YACs) focus on initiatives and decision making related to a specific Kickstand hub across our 8 Kickstand locations. Members are offered opportunities to support local events, projects, and youth engagement activitiesÂ
Note that: Most local YACs require in-person commitment and recruitment and availability vary by community and are managed locally. Reach out to your local hub for more information.
Not sure which option is right for you? That’s okay!Â
Many young people start by joining the General Youth Network and later apply for a Provincial or Local YAC when they’re ready for a more active leadership role. Even if you aren’t able to join a YAC, you can still stay involved through the General Youth Network and continue contributing your ideas and perspectives.
Some Kickstand youth hubs may also offer additional local opportunities.
