SUMMARY

Reporting to the Community Engagement and Partnership Lead and working collaboratively with the Communications Coordinator, the Social Media Coordinator plays a key execution-focused role within Kickstand’s communications team. This position supports content creation, publishing, and campaign coordination to strengthen Kickstand’s digital presence and engagement with youth across Alberta.

This role offers opportunities for skill development and growth within a dynamic, youth-centred organization. It is ideal for someone early in their career (1–2 years of experience, including internships or volunteer work) who is organized, creative, tech-savvy, and passionate about mental health and youth empowerment.

ROLE RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES

Social Media & Digital Content

  • Develop, schedule, and publish content across platforms (Instagram, TikTok, Facebook, LinkedIn).
  • Create engaging visuals and short-form videos using tools such as Canva and CapCut.
  • Support collaboration with partner organizations through cross-posting and shared campaigns.
  • Monitor engagement and flag relevant issues or opportunities to the Communications Coordinator.
  • Track analytics and provide basic insights on performance and audience engagement.

Website Support

  • Assist with design and content updates to the Kickstand website (WordPress).
  • Upload photos, update pages, and align website content with ongoing campaigns.
  • Brainstorm creative ideas for digital campaigns and online storytelling.

Hub & Site Support

  • Provide content creation guidance to newer hub sites.
  • Offer occasional content support to established sites like Edmonton or Kickstand Connect, ensuring alignment with provincial messaging.

Marketing, Campaigns & Events

  • Support marketing and communications activities, including campaigns, events, and program promotions.
  • Contribute to the relaunch of employment services and related initiatives.
  • Collaborate with hub staff across Alberta to ensure local outreach efforts align with Kickstand’s communications goals.

Reporting & Analytics

  • Track and compile social media and website metrics using tools like Google Analytics and Meta Insights.
  • Contribute to monthly reporting on engagement, reach, and campaign performance.

General Communications Support

  • Maintain digital asset libraries (e.g., photos, graphics, brand files).
  • Ensure consistent use of Kickstand’s branding and tone across all platforms.
  • Provide administrative support for communications projects and campaigns as needed.

QUALIFICATIONS

Education, Training and Experience

  • Post-secondary education in communications, marketing, digital media, or a related field (or equivalent combination of education and experience).
  • 1–2 years of experience in social media, digital content creation, or marketing (including internships or volunteer experience).
  • Understanding of digital trends, analytics, and youth-oriented storytelling.
  • Experience working with Indigenous, 2SLGBTQIA+, or other equity-deserving populations is an asset.

Skills and Abilities

  • Proficiency with social media platforms (Instagram, TikTok, Facebook, LinkedIn).
  • Skilled in creating and editing visuals and videos using Canva, CapCut, or similar tools.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills with attention to detail.
  • Creative mindset with an eye for design and engaging digital storytelling.
  • Organized, proactive, and able to manage multiple projects in a fast-paced environment.
  • Comfortable working independently and collaboratively in a remote team setting.
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills using Microsoft 365 tools (e.g., Teams, SharePoint, Outlook).
  • Adaptable, eager to learn, and open to feedback.
  • Demonstrated commitment to inclusivity, cultural sensitivity, and youth engagement.

Additional Information about the Role

  • Compensation will depend on experience and fit for the position. ($48,000.00 – $50,000.00 per year plus benefits, based on experience, with room for growth).
  • This is a hybrid position with some required in-person meetings and flexibility to work from home.
  • Some travel within Alberta may be required for events, centre visits, or team gatherings.
